Green Pill

Matched by Ally Condie (Matched Series, 1):

Do you love Divergent? You will love this.

I came across this book after rereading and rereading old books simply because I had nothing else to do. I wanted to escape reality for a moment. This book is beyond the realms or reality unless you consider it a metaphor to how society is becoming.

Matched begins with Cassia Reyes and her best friend Xander Carrow. We learn from the beginning that their society is programmed to keep order and maintain spontaneous behaviors. At 17 years old, she is matched with her best friend, Xander, who she has known forever. We quickly learn from being matched, they will ultimately be allowed to get married at 21 years old. Their life is basically planned. They do not have a say in whether they want to make their own choices because all their choices are predicted from advanced data programmed by the Society. Unfortunately, Cassia finds a glitch in the system to which she draws her attention to Ky Markham, who she also knows. She questions the society and their system. Ky is a mysterious outcast who is banned from being matched with anyone. He shows Cassia how to write, read forbidden books and poetry. His knowledge and quiet demeanor is what draws Cassia to him. {Spoiler}If you are thinking how is it possible that they get away with their relationship. They don’t. {Spoiler} Their love beats every cliche of forbidden love. The book also mentions how everyone in society -that is not outcasted- have a green, red, and blue pill. Cassia's obstacle, throughout the first book, is overcoming her desire to take the green pill.

Warning: Every little detail matters.
